Foreword

The SURE-Built 2026 Conference seeks to bring together interdisciplinary scholars, built environment professionals, industry practitioners, and policymakers to examine how Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) is transforming knowledge creation, validation, and application in the built environment. Under the theme “Built Environment Epistemologies: Crafting Sustainable Knowledge in the GenAI Era,” the conference provides a platform for critical reflection on emerging technologies, sustainable design, predictive analytics, and new approaches to research and practice, particularly within developing countries. The conference further promotes interdisciplinary collaboration and seeks to connect traditional and locally grounded knowledge systems with contemporary technological advancements. At the heart of SURE-Built 2026 is a commitment to inclusivity, accessibility, equity, and actionable impact. Through its free-to-attend model, the conference seeks to reduce financial barriers to scholarly participation and contribute to a more inclusive global research community. In doing so, SURE-Built 2026 aims not only to advance knowledge in the sustainable built environment but also to contribute to reshaping how such knowledge is created, shared, and applied in the GenAI era.
