Abstract
Commercial Shops experienced fire outbreaks in Ghana, and in the proliferation of Malls within the Greater Kumasi Metropolis, this study assess the readiness in the event of fire. Qualitative approach using a closed- ended interview and observational studies to collect data. The assessment focused on materials for construction, location, vehicular movement and staff knowledge on the use of safety equipment. Inadequacies in case of fire outbreak in Active and Passive control preparedness was revealed. Kumasi City Mall was the most prepared and the China Mall was the least. The Malls were located within recommended distance from a fire station (2.4Km-4 Km). The awareness of staff on the use of fire safety equipment was high, except China Mall. State institutions must collaborate with others to enforced regulations on safety and embed routine drills into mall safety management. The scope should be expanded to other regions.
