Abstract
Many cities around the world are experiencing rapidly increasing population, where thousands of people are moving to urban areas yearly. Giving rise to identified challenges related to stretches in infrastructures, housing and resource management. The amount of waste generated within these cities has increased, as more people reside there. Sustainable urbanisation is seen as key to successful development, if these challenges are to be absorbed and solved. There is a need for adequate and sustainable waste management system via a strategy such as Circular Economy, a form of resource management that minimise and maximise the lifespan of any product or material. This study examines the efficiency of plastic waste collection adaptability with circular economy strategy practice for sustainable development, towards actualisation of the Africa Sustainable Development Agenda 2068. Primary data were obtained from residents of two towns in Ogun State Nigeria. This was done to obtain the respondent’s awareness and implementation of circular economy in plastic waste management. Descriptive statistic was used in analysing the data. The results showed the respondents having limited awareness and information availability on circular economy as strategy for waste management. Limited waste collection technology, awareness and lack of policy implementation availability in plastic management with circular economy within the studied area. The study recommends the active, enforcement and enlightenment by government agencies via program in the communities, to encourage a willful public participation in waste collection, overcoming the dread of circular economy implementation as solution to waste management.
